Sportsbet Million Dollar Tipping

Sportsbet’s Million Dollar Tipping experience lets customers tip in competitions on major sports events.

Challenge

To bring Sportsbet’s Million Dollar Tipping experience in line with their rebranded Betting experience, introduce new features and improve the user experience.

Users

Sports fans wanting to tip in Sportsbet’s major tipping competitions – including AFL, NRL, and racing.

Role

On behalf of Shine Solutions I led the UX and redesign, consulting for Sportsbet.  I also managed another designer assisting with the UI skins.

Overview

Under the direction of Sportsbet’s Head of UX and product owners, informed by their data analysis on user patterns, internal requirements and the brand and user experience for their Betting experience, I conducted competitive analysis of similar products, fed back my finding and recommendations to stakeholders and used these findings together with user usage data and company requirements to explore and establish the information architecture and wire frame user flows for existing and new features.

Sportsbet Log In

The entry point to Million Dollar Tipping had to make it easy and quick to login and sign up and to give new customers a clear and compelling overview of the main features so we created a simple tabbed component that would make each of these visible before the user needed to scroll.

New User Profiles

New users needed to set up a tipping profile to enable them to join competitions.  We created a simple, quick wizard to step them through the essential info required to get them started.

Returning User Profiles

Users returning to a new season of tipping were required to confirm their profile settings before engaging in the competitions.  We sent them to their saved Tipping profile – also accessible anytime through the main navigation.

First Time Walkthrough

We created a simple walkthrough of important new features to ensure new users and existing users returning for a new season had a good overview of how to get the best tipping experience.

The Big Picture

We enabled easy navigation between primary Sportsbet comps and users’ private comps via the side drawer, with an overview of all current comps, their status, results, ladders and updated winners from the home screen.

Tipping

The heart of the app, the tipping screens carried a lot of information to help users make informed choices when they tipped.  From tipping for each round of the comp (plus before, live and finished states), to game information featuring statistical data on teams and players, to tipper info that helped the user map out their own progress through the comp.

Ladders

Tipping ladders showed users where everyone was positioned within the overall competition and needed to convey scores, movements and margins, while round ladders displayed team positions within the comp.
